Should everyone who handle food be made to take a basic food allergen course as I don't think there is enough awareness on allergens in foods and the dangers of cross contamination

Absolutely they should. I dont know if there is a legal requirement for everyone to take one, @Pani will probably know that.

My son had a bad childhood allergy so I totally feel the frustrations with people not understanding. I can see it being a pain in a wedding with a lot of people.

Now some of the cake shops are offering gluten free or vegan cakes, but where they fall short is not being able to supply baked goods that's free from all allergens including i.e dairy free , nut free, egg free, gluten free and soya free

Ah, thats a true enough point and certainly more has to be done.
