Elden Ring
Collab between Japanese studio FromSoft who are famous for difficult action games and George RR Martin. You're tasked by a ghostly figure to retrieve the Elden Ring and bring order to a post apocalyptic world where humanity have been driven to madness.
Its my first forray into FromSoft games and tbh, while its definitely challenging its not as hard as I was expecting. Very dark, loads of story but you have to dig around and talk to people to find a lot of it. It doesnt spoon feed you.

Zelda Breath of the Wild
Late to the party, I'm getting this done before playing the latest game. Legendary series from my childhood, BoTW is an open world game where you have a simple objective but it gives you absolute freedom in how you go about it.
I like one of the mottos I saw in reviews "there are no bad ideas, just ideas that could go horribly wrong". Thats exactly how this game is and its super refreshing considering most games these days are on rails and a lot of the time you need to figure out the specific solution to a challenge. This is just "here are some tools, be creative to achieve what you want to do". I like it.
